Romeo and Juliet both show signs of taking responsibility for their actions. For example when they get married, Romeo takes it upon himself to talk to Friar Lawrence and ask him what his thoughts are on marrying Juliet. Romeo says, " Then plainly know my heart's dear love is set/ on the fair daughter of rich Capulet. / As mine on hers, so hers is setbon mine,/ And all combined, save what thou must combine/ By holy marriage./ When and where and how/ we met, we wooed, and made exchange of vow/ I'll tell thee as We pass, but this I pray/ that thou consent to marry us today." So Romeo is basically asking Friar Lawrence for "his consent" for them to get married. Meanwhile, Romeo does not know what will be the effect of him marrying a Capulet for one, and also this shows an act of his ignorant youth for not thinking about the consequences before talking to Friar Lawrence about marrying her.
The choices that Romeo and Juliet make also have to do with responsibility because it leads to horrible consequences. Romeo and Juliet are young teens who are bound to make decisions without thinking about what their doing first. An example of when their actions lead to a bad consequence is when Romeo gets baniahed from Verona because he killed a Capulet; which was Tynalt ( Juliet's cousin). If Romeo had never killed Tybalt he would be able to stay in Verona and he would be in on Friar Lawrence and Juliet's plan. Once Juliet had drank the potion, so that she wouldn't have to marry Paris, Romeo wouldn't think she was dead, and he would actually know that the potion was only a sleeping potion. If Romeo would have been reaponsible enough to actually dwell on the decision of killing Tybalt or not the whole fiasco would have never occured. Which also brings us back to their youth because since Romeo's only sign of guidance is Friar Lawrence he actually doesn't have anyone to tell him right from wrong, or for him not to do anything because he does what he wants.
When Romeo comes back to the tomb when Juliet lies next to Tybalt, Romeo feels regretful for killing Tybalt. He feels this way because now that he is officially married to Juliet, he is now part of their family. While Romeo is in the tomb he asks for forgiveness because he now realizes what he has become and what his feelings lead him to do. Romeo says," Tybalt, liest thou there in thy bloody sheet?/ O, what more favor can I do to thee/ than with that hand that cut thy youth in twain/ to sunder his that was thine enemey?/ Forgive me, cousin." This is the moment when Romeo reflects on all the bad things that occured. When Mercrutio gets slain by Tybalt, when he gets banished from Verona, and now he discovers that Juliet is supposedly dead.
In Romeo and Juliet their actions really show how young love can be naieve. Romeo suddenly wants to marry Juliet when he sees her at the party because it was love at first sight. And they make sacrafices for eachother like sneaking out so that they can get secretly married. And they make a plan and the nurse tells Juliet to meet "by the hour of nine." Also when Juliet makes her plan with Friar Lawrence to drink the potion so that everyone could think that she's dead, she can then run away with Romeo and everything would be "perfect". But in the end we all knew it wasn't. Young love can be very over poweing and in this case it was for these two love birds. Romeo kills Tybalt; i he haden't Tybalt would've killed him, and he also killed him because he loved Huliet and he didn't want to give her up. And that shows Romeo and Juliets naieve, young, love.
In conclusion Romeo and Juliet face difficult decisions while mulitple things pccur in their lives just to make things that much difficult. Romeo and Juliet both end up taking their choices out of proportion because they don't agree with their parents, and they dont think about their actions before they do them. Which is where their youth comes all into play. Throughout the whole atory they don't realize their consequences until they actually fce the consequences in reality. Their youth is what got the beat of them and is what over powered their choices. But in the end they both did get what they wanted, which was to be together . Although this time... It is in heaven.
